Ice Rinks

To make an ice rink all you basically need is a yard, a garden hose, and a cold climate. Once the water freezes you have an ice skating rink. Ice skating rinks even occur naturally if you have a pond on your property. However, some people like to add a little more to their backyard ice rinks. You can add benches for the skaters to sit on, or for the people who just want to watch the people enjoy the backyard ice rink. Cold weather doesn’t mean you can’s have fun in your backyard. Ice rinks can be the centre for activities like winter barbeques. Just be sure to have plenty of tea, coffee and hot chocolate.
Though a back yard ice rink is not hard to make, there are things you must keep in mind. You want a level spot that is relatively well sheltered from the sun and the wind. Hopefully, it will also be sheltered from snow. You need a place you’ll be able to shovel snow to, if your outdoor ice rink does get covered with snow. It is best to start by laying a tarp so water does not seep into the ground. If you do not have a tarp, you must build up a base by misting to make slush. Only when you have this frozen base can you begin the flooding part of your ice rink construction. Your home ice rink can be as large or as small as you want it. It will be great for all the family, but if you want to make an ice hockey rink, you might want to lay your red line, blue lines and goal lines, as well as face off circles before you do your final flooding. Information on how to do this and other aspects of ice skating rinks and instruction can be found at the library, online, and sometimes at sporting goods stores. They can also tell you all you need to know about ice rink floor repairs, home synthetic ice rink material, and where to look for ice rinks for sale.

Ice skating parties are fun, but don’t forget; falls are common and ice is solid. If you’ve got kids skating, helmets are a good idea, especially if they’re playing hockey. For small children a sponge puck is safer than a hard rubber one. With good outdoor lighting, your ice rink can be used at night, too.
